When the Moroccan Government was looking for the ideal location from which to launch its ambitious Plan Azur tourism investment strategy it quickly identified the white sandy beaches and turquoise blue seas of Saidia – otherwise known as the Blue Pearl of Morocco – as its first destination for investment.

In 2001 the government of Morocco begun to formulate plans for an incredible new resort to rival anything currently on the Mediterranean coastline. The draft proposal for the Mediterrania Saidia Resort was agreed by FADESA the Master Developer and the Prime Minister of Morocco, Driss Jettou, in August 2003.

The government of Morocco looked at the mistakes made by Spain in its high speed dash for development along the Costas and realised that successful development requires the infrastructure to be in place before the development begins. So, as well as the creation of a new resort, it was also agreed that the government would invest in new infrastructure projects; the upgrading of nearby Oujda Airport to accommodate a new runway and a new terminal building, a new motorway, a new train link and, crucially, the establishment of a training college to ensure that the qualified staff necessary would be available to service the requirement s of the new luxury resort.

Since this time things have been progressing more or less to schedule. The Moroccan King, Mohamed VI, has been keeping a close eye on the progress and intervening when he feels that things have not been done correctly or could be done better. It’s said that he conducts a personal tour every few months – a powerful political backing that will ensure that this resort will undoubtedly exceed the expectations of the visionaries from 2001.

The Mediterrania Saidia Resort

Situated along 6km of Morocco’s finest white sandy beach this next generation leisure resort is set to become one of the new landmarks on the Mediterranean. The aim is to create a destination – a place with so much that tourists don’t need to go anywhere else and a place that is of such a size and scope that people are drawn to it.

So the crystal clear blue waters are only part of the attraction. There’s also three golf courses (one championship standard), Olympic class sports facilities, an equestrian centre, a conference centre, a bowling alley, cycle tracks, a watersports centre as well as a Spa and Thalasso Therapy centre.

The centrepiece of the resort is a traditional Moroccan styled medina and luxury Marina capable of housing the largest luxury yachts afloat. The Medina, or commercial centre, has already been recognised by many upmarket brands who have taken up options to open boutiques there. The habourside frontage will resemble that from any of the most exclusive streets in the world, with shops from Gucci, Dior, Boss and Armani. As well as these upmarket brand many other high street names have signed up to be part of Saidia’s success including; Mango, Women’s Secret and Avis Rentacar.

In front of this the largest leisure marina on the Moroccan Mediterranean coast will be constructed. The completed marina will have berths for over 1000 boats plus all the necessary maintenance and repair facilities required by today’s ocean going super yachts.
